Hey Kids! Awesome Parties Have Consequences In House Cleaning

Check out this article we found:

If you wreck a house during a party, someone has to clean it up. House Cleaning has a kind of warped, hoarder-ish perspective on tidying up that will have your kids shoving all their misplaced mess into boxes. But it might encourage children to try to clean up after themselves if all other forms of parenting fail.

After a totally awesome bash, the cutie cleaners in House Cleaning realize they can’t just leave books and CDs scattered throughout the garden of their friend’s home. So, you must dutifully help them sort out the garbage from the decent items before they can move onto another section of the post-party warzone. Plus, they’ll even do a bit of magical yard work when you’re done.

House Cleaning is not a game for anyone over the age of 5 most likely. It is a perpetual loop of cleaning the same locations over and over while cheery jewelry box music chimes in the background. It is cute, simplistic, and completely inoffensive, and might give younger kids the impression that you do need to clean up after yourself in the event you start throwing newspapers into fountains.

Removing Stains With Salt Solutions

Need to remove a stubborn stain in your carpet?  Maybe the stain is a gravy stain left over from thanksgiving.  For gravy stains one of the best maid services in San Francisco recommends a special approach.  To start, you should spread salt over the stained area, this makes sure that the stain won't spread.  Then, you can proceed to clean the stain as recommended by your carpet manufacturer.  This may include using a detergent to scrub the carpet.  For more helpful tips relating to house cleaning, click the link below.

House cleaning for the holidays

Read this article we found:

The holidays are a time for fun and family, but there’s a lot of prep work to be done around the home before your guests arrive.  Keeping your house clean during this time of year can be a monumental task.  In today’s Angie’s List report, ABC 10′s Mike Hoey explains how a house cleaner can help.
Homeowner Angela Duggan started using a house cleaner a year ago to clean her house on a weekly basis.  For Duggan, it’s been money well spent.
“During the holidays I find that it’s even more important to have a house cleaner,” Duggan said.  “We have a large family.  I love to cook, as I’ve said before, so Thanksgiving to me, I would prefer to be at the grocery store shopping as opposed to scrubbing down my walls.”
“Yes, business definitely increases due to people planning parties and events for the holidays and family guests coming in to stay,” House Cleaner Laura Knox said.  “During the holidays the clients tend to ask for is the more detail cleaning of the kitchens, the bathrooms.  If they are having houseguests they normally ask for a more detailed cleaning of those guest rooms and the common areas for the entertaining.”
Angie’s List says it’s important to communicate your needs and expectations clearly because everyone’s opinion of clean can be different.  Before you hire, ask for an in–home estimate.
“Depending on the size of your home you might pay anywhere from a couple hundred dollars, which is what we see on average on Angie’s List, but we have seen it as much $700, but keep in mind that depends on the actual size of the home,” Angie’s List founder Angie Hicks said. “If you’re considering buying a deal on housecleaning, be sure you ask questions and understand exactly what you are getting so that you can be confident that you’re not going to get an up charge for things after the fact and that the person you are buying the deal from knows exactly the condition of your home.”
Don’t forget to check on insurance and bonding when hiring.  Insurance covers damage by the company, such as bleach stains, and a bond covers an employee’s dishonest criminal conduct, like theft.
Angie’s List says book as early as possible if you need a housecleaning service for the holidays.  Companies will fill up fast during this time of year.

How Important Is Keeping a Clean House?

Read this article we found:

In any home, some cleaning-related tasks spark dread in some members of the household, while others don’t mind them at all. For example, one person might detest emptying the dishwasher, and therefore, complete other chores that he or she likes more, or at least is willing to do.
Do you think it’s fair to be able to pick and choose when it comes to cleaning and home maintenance? What if everyone likes and dislikes the same tasks? How are chores delegated in your household?
In the Op-Ed piece “The Case for Filth,” Stephen Marche suggests a solution to issues like the gender divide that keeps women doing more of the housework than men and even disagreements over what constitutes a household chore: everyone cleaning less. He begins:

In Claire Messud’s novel “The Emperor’s Children,” the ultraliberal Murray Thwaite comes home late, steps in cat vomit and keeps walking: “It still was not, nor could it ever be, his role to clean up cat sick,” Ms. Messud writes. The boomer hypocrite is practically a comic type by this point, but in his domestic disregard, Murray Thwaite is like most other men, liberal or conservative, old or young.
Unlike many other rubrics by which you can establish the balance of power between men and women, there isn’t much evidence of a cohort shift in housework. Younger men are doing roughly the same amount of work around the house as their fathers did. It doesn’t look like they’re going to start doing more, either.
Women today make up 40 percent of America’s sole or primary breadwinners for families with children under 18, a share that has quadrupled since 1960. And yet in America as well as in several other countries in the developed world, men’s time investment in housework has not significantly altered in nearly 30 years.
A recent, large cross-national study on the subject by an Ohio State sociologist found that “women’s housework did not decline significantly and men’s housework did not increase significantly after the mid-1980s in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.” In the United States, men’s participation in housework topped out at 94 minutes at day in 1998, but by 2003 was down to 81 minutes, not much different than the 76 minutes it was in 1985.
Think of all the other changes that men have undertaken in the period between 1980 and 2010. Taking care of kids used to be women’s work, too, but now the man with his kids is an icon of manliness. Foodie snobbism has taken on a macho edge in some circles, to the point where the properly brined Thanksgiving turkey can be a status symbol of masculine achievement.
So why won’t men pick up a broom? Why won’t they organize a closet? Why can’t housework be converted — as the former burdens of food preparation and child rearing seem to have been for some men — into a source of manly pride and joy? Why would housework be the particular place to stall?
At least one thing is becoming clear: The only possible solution to the housework discrepancy is for everyone to do a lot less of it.

Cleaning Granite Countertops

There are many misconceptions about cleaning granite countertops.  Maintenance is simple, however should be taken seriously.  Day to day maintenance should be a concern, if anything spills on the countertop it should be cleaned right away.  For more thorough cleanings you can use baking soda.  This will help remove stubborn stains for the beautiful granite stone.  Every once in a while you should seal your countertop with a sealant bought from the store.  This will make sure that your countertop is in mint condition for a long time.

How to Clean Hardwood Floors: Must-Know Tricks

We found this great article for you to read:

Hardwood Floors: Basic Care
Speed up the cleaning process by first dusting the floor with a mop that has been treated with a dusting agent to pick up dust, dirt, and pet hair that might scratch the floor surface. For weekly or biweekly cleaning, vacuum with a floor-brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner or an electric broom. Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar attachment, which can scratch a wood floor's finish. For quick dusting, use disposable electrostatic cloths, available at grocery and discount stores. Save money by using both sides of the disposable cloths.
Hardwood Floors: Deeper Cleaning
Dirt, oil, and grime build up over time and aren't completely removed by a weekly dust mopping. For occasional deep cleaning (consider doing the cleaning in the spring or just before the winter holidays), use a wood-cleaning product diluted according to the label instructions. Saturate a sponge or rag mop in the water, then wring it almost dry so it feels only slightly damp to the touch. Damp-mop the floor, being careful to prevent standing water on the floor. Rinse with a clean mop dampened in clear water, but only if the cleaning product requires it. Wipe up excess liquid because standing water can damage wood surfaces. If the weather is humid, operate a ceiling fan or the air-conditioner to speed up drying.
Hardwood Floors: Removing Marks
Consider your floor's finish before trying to remove a mark. If the stain is on the surface, your floor probably has a hard finish, such as urethane. If the stain has penetrated through to the wood, the floor probably has a soft oiled finish -- common in older homes whose floors have not been refinished and resealed. Wipe surface stains from a hard finish with a soft, clean cloth. Never use sandpaper, steel wool, or harsh chemicals on such a surface because they can permanently damage the finish.
The following remedies are for hardwood floors with soft oiled finishes. If needed, end each treatment by staining the wood, then waxing and buffing the spot to match the rest of the floor.
  • Dark spots and pet stains: Rub the spot with No. 000 steel wool and floor wax. If the area is still dark, apply bleach or vinegar and allow it to soak into the wood for about an hour. Rinse with a damp cloth.
  • Heel marks: Use fine steel wool to rub in floor wax.
  • Oil-base stains: Rub the area with a soft cloth and dishwashing detergent to break down the grease. Rinse with clear water. If one or more applications don't work, repeat the procedure. Keep children and pets out of the room until you're done. Let the spot dry, then smooth the raised grain with fine sandpaper.
  • Water marks or white stains: Rub the spot with No. 000 steel wool and floor wax. If the stain goes deeper, lightly sand the floor and clean with fine steel wool and odorless mineral spirits.

A Cleaning Schedule: How Often Do We Need to Clean?

Read this article we found:

Spring is almost here and it is time to do some overall cleaning. We admit there is nothing glamourous about cleaning and we dream of the day when we can afford a housekeeper. Until then, we try to keep up with the house work and clean our home with love. Week after week, we wonder how often do we really need to do certain household chores, especially trouble spots like the bathroom and kitchen.

We find ourselves more relaxed, happy, and balanced when we are living and working in a clean space. What does it take to keep the home looking beautiful and clean everyday? As we do in every part of our life, we create a checklist or to-do list for the domestic tasks. The list contains what household tasks need to be done and how often.
Short-Term (2 days - 1 week):
  • Laundry - Usually once a week is sufficient, depending on if your laundry duty includes more than just your own laundry.
  • Vacuum. If you start seeing small bits of dirt on your carpet or floor, it is time to vacuum. We put vacuuming on the weekly cleaning to-do list.
  • Dusting. We try to put dusting off for every other week, but really dusting should be a weekly chore.
  • Cleaning Sinks. It is always nice to have a water-spot-free and clean sink. Also, by Friday there can be an unattractive toothpaste build up on the sink.
  • Cleaning Toilets. This is our least favorite task and it can be a little less than pleasant. We clean it at least once a week or as needed (no further explanation).
Medium-Term (1 week - 1 month):
  • Clean Windows. We rotate weeks for when we clean the windows. Cleaning windows can get the best of us because it is very hard to get them streak-free. Either way, we can appreciate when the windows are clean and we can see the beautiful view or sunset.
  • Wash Shower/Bathtub. We try to clean the shower every two - three weeks to prevent mildew from growing.
Long-Term (1 month - 6 months):
  • Clean Upholstery. We visited one of our friends the other day and he was getting his sofa upholstery professionally cleaned. The representative recommended upholstery be cleaned every 6-12 months for both hygienic reasons and appearances, depending upon use.
  • Steam Clean Carpet. It is reasonably priced to rent a steamer to clean the carpet. Unseen dirt and bacteria builds up in carpet and it is important keep it clean, especially if you are prone to allergies.
  • Wash Duvet and Blankets. Routinely we wash our sheets, but our duvet on our bed doesn't get cleaned. We love going to sleep knowing we won't be bitten by bed bugs - enough said.
Since cleaning can be a bit dull, we found a couple great posts on how to make doing household chores more enjoyable.

The Importance of Using Professional Home Cleaning Service

Check out this article we found:

House cleaning has been underestimated for a long time. People don’t recognize it as something crucial. Some of them even neglect the fact that regular and thorough cleaning is a must in order to get a healthier life. Home cleaning is often said as an exhausting activity. Not all people have the energy and time to do it. There are also many who refuse to clean their house regularly because they simply don’t know how to do it right. Poor knowledge of cleaning may lead this activity to be ineffective and even useless. Therefore, an integrated solution is needed.
Keeping your home clean and hygiene is very substantial. You never know if the hazardous bacteria, viruses, germs, and others are present to disturb your safety and comfort. The whole family or residents may get the negative effect of a dirty house. But if you simply don’t have the time, knowledge, or experience to clean your house, you better leave it to the professional. You can use professional house cleaning service to ensure your home’s cleanliness and hygiene. There are even more advantages of using this kind of service rather than trying to do it on your own. Professional cleaning company like LondonCleaningHouse always uses the latest technology and advanced products to make sure your house is completely clean and free from environmental hazards. If you insist to do it without any help, the result may not as maximum, especially if your house hasn’t been cleaned for a long time. The trained and professional cleaners are more than capable to make your house feel like new. They fully understand how to treat your house because of their advanced knowledge and experience.
Counting on a professional cleaning service is not only advantageous for general cleaning activity. If you want a cleaning service on something specific, let’s say, your carpet, you can have it as well. Carpet and rugs require professional cleaning service because as the time goes by, those tend to be stained and odor. Removing the stain and odor without any help is almost impossible; therefore, you can ask the cleaning company to do it for you. Some of the companies also offer upholstery cleaning service. You can take benefits from it since cleaning sofa and other furniture all by yourself is not as easy and effective.

Why is Liability Insurance Necessary?

Many clients ask about the types of insurance we have as a company. Companies purchase several types of insurance to protect their own financial matters, but it also protects the client. One example for a typically business is fire insurance. This type of insurance is used to cover a building in case of fire, earthquake, floods, etc. As a house cleaning service, we purchase liability insurance. It has the same concept of fire insurance, but under different circumstances. IF there are any damages suffered by our services (which is unlikely) this insurance will cover them.

What You Can Expect When Hiring A Maid Service

We found this interesting article for you to read:

Maid services are not for everybody but in a house where all members are working people or a house that's too large to clean oneself, hiring a maid service becomes necessary. Not only are the maids good at what they do but they carry a professional attitude not always found in independent maids.
An adherence to good work ethics is required by services that run a tight ship. This isn't always the case with all services so clients need to look for one with glowing recommendations and one that has been in operation for several years. A good source is through word of mouth and even internet forums which provide real client testimonies on existing services.
What about background checks? Only a few cleaning services actually run background checks on their employees. These are the ones worth checking out because they value client safety and by doing so, reduce the risk posed to them if something goes wrong. The best way to find out which service does run a check is by asking outright. Those that do will be more than willing to advertise the fact and will be happy to provide proof.
How competent are professional maids? This depends on how much training has been imparted and the work culture of the service. Good cleaners are those that make sure employees work fast and efficiently and the only way to do this is either by hiring people with experience or giving them training. As for clients, inform them about what areas need cleaning, problems spots, if any, and other little details that need special attention.
What happens if something gets damaged? A well-run maid service will make sure employees are bonded and insured so if an accident occurs and something suffers damage, it will try to repair or replace it if a claim is made. Most services insist that clients keep floors, chairs and beds free of clothes, toys and other 'foreign' items to make work easier and reduce the risk of damaging objects.
How about discounts? Discounts may or may not be offered but one way to search is to ask services if your house can be used as a training ground for new maids. More times than most, new trainees do a very good job because they're eager to impress their bosses.
Another way to cut cost is to ask services to send maids for only an hour or two. They won't be able to clean the entire house but at least you'll get a clean bathroom, kitchen or living room, useful when you have guests coming over.
What about green house cleaning? As a client, you can enquire about the use of green cleaning products if desired. This point is important if there are family members with allergies, children or pets in the house. Of course, unscrupulous services may claim to use environmentally friendly products but don't. The only way to know for sure is by choosing one that's trusted.
What if the work is unsatisfactory? Good maid services will be happy to send a replacement to do a better job. There are instances where clients fail to specify what needs cleaning. In this case, the fault doesn't lie with the service so if you've had an unsatisfactory experience in the past, make sure you specify details so you aren't held accountable.
